I am here to offer assistance for a woman’s birth. I provide this support to a birthing woman and partners. I am independent and self-employed, and work only for you, not your caregiver or the hospital. My role is not to judge your decisions nor attempt to persuade you to do things differently. My goal is to be your advocate and make sure that all parties follow your birth plan when possible. Doulas do not perform clinical tasks, such as blood pressure, fetal monitoring, vaginal exams, etc. Doulas are only there to provide physical, emotional and informational support.
Doulas do not make decisions for you. They will only help you get the information you need to make informed decisions. They will also remind you if there is a departure from your birth plan, and will verify with you, if in fact, you want to depart from the plan.
Birth is a special gift and women have been helping women with it in a loving, gentle, empowering way for many years. Having a doula helps decrease the need for invasive medical procedures. Birth is a natural process, not a medical event.
